I just don't get how vaporwave's ironic mixes of old aesthetics came and went without digging this game up, and all the e-celebs never found this one when nonlinear games with tons of optional content is perfect for streaming. It's highly screenshot'able, and people always ask me for the source. The art direction alone should stand out. It has the nonlinearity ('your choice matters' but I believe it so far), the unexpected deep lifesim elements (Persona), the unheard of variety of puzzles, its richly detailed execution of the rare utopian setting, not to mention how good the actual murder mystery itself is. Where's this game's fanbase and praise? There's nothing like this, and it is a quality game. The Longest Journey maintained modest popularity within the same genre and somewhat similar setting through the 2000s, and game journalists absolutely ate up the first Bioshock for its literary connections during Culpa Innata's release year. What's the issue? My friends who play obscure old games never heard of this either. How did I learn about this game through wikipedia of all places? Combing through old forums, it doesn't even look like it was discussed much in the late 2000s.
